The new construction adds a wing for the display of over 700 fragile and light-sensitive Native American artifacts to the museum.
18,000 SF of gallery and support space was added to the museum without disrupting the graceful slope of the surrounding lakeside landscape special to Cooperstown.
By locating the new galleries underground, the house now adjoins a garden terrace whose various levels, pavilions, and plantings provide a handsome outlook to the nine-mile lake below. A grand, double-stair descending to the central exhibition hall offers access to two galleries, a 121-seat auditorium, study center, storage areas, and support facilities.
