Steinberg Hart is the AOR for three of six aviation projects within the Naval Air Weapons Station (NAWS) China Lake South Airfield, and the Landscape AOR for the entire 130.5-acre site designed to create a cohesive campus environment for all six facility projects, which were rendered unsafe by the 2019 Ridgecrest Earthquake. In response to the extreme climate conditions on base, the facilities are rigorously designed to ensure they can withstand 8.0 magnitude earthquakes, extreme temperatures, and resist threats, while fostering command pride.

The Integrated Air Operations and Tower ($63.9M) is a 30,000 SF Aviation facility consisting of a 1-story Air Operations building and a 14-story, 150-foot-tall, Air Traffic Control Tower for oversight of the NAWS China Lake Armitage Airfield. The double-height main entry connects occupants to multiple air operations programs including flight planning, simulator, emergency command center, offices, conference rooms, classrooms, and the control lab.

The Integration Laboratory ($136.1M) is a 75,800 SF RDT&E Laboratory and Airport building expanding the Naval Air Weapons Center Weapons Division’s mission in NAWS China Lake. The Main building entry opens to a high-volume, naturally illuminated lobby with digital art walls honoring the local commands. Titled the “Jewel of the South Airfield” by Navy stakeholders, the lobby serves as a circulation node to access the secure facility administration and laboratory wings.

The Aircraft Fire & Rescue Facility ($38M) is a 20,799 SF Fire Station with an Apparatus Bay and Administrative Wing. The high-volume apparatus bay serves as a vehicle maintenance and warehouse facility for large emergency operation fire trucks. The administrative wing’s program consists of dorms, offices, training areas, physical therapy rooms, gym, meeting rooms, a commercial kitchen, and a dining facility.
