The 47,000 SF LEED Gold facility provides 40,000 SF of administrative office, operations, and warehouse space for the Sheriff’s Wireless Services and Data Services Divisions, a 7,000 SF critical data and wireless communications center for the County of San Diego’s Emergency Communications System, 125’ tall wireless communications tower, and a multi-use media center supporting the Sheriff’s Department and County Office of Emergency Services.

The new facility replaced outdated buildings that no longer met the increasing needs of the County. Special care had to be taken not to disrupt the adjacent County Emergency Operations Center or 911 backbone infrastructure during design and construction.

The building features an outdoor plaza designed for employee use during normal operations, with power and communications connections for local news agencies integrated into the hardscape design, expanding the capacity of the media center during emergency events. Careful consideration was given to the building’s zoning, separating emergency response and public interface functions to allow each of them to operate without disruption.
