Breaking Ground on the Tye Preston Memorial Library Expansion

Steinberg Hart Celebrates Groundbreaking for Tye Preston Memorial Library Expansion in Canyon Lake, Texas

The renovated facility creates new opportunities for connection and engagement within the Canyon Lake community .

Canyon Lake, TX (August 25, 2026) – Today, Steinberg Hart celebrated the groundbreaking of the new Tye Preston Memorial Library, which will be located in the heart of Canyon Lake and provide greater learning opportunities and resources for the surrounding community. The expanded library will act as a welcoming space, serving as the Canyon Lake community’s home away from home.

Nestled in a Hill Country landscape, the Tye Preston Memorial Library seeks to meet community growth and demand while preserving its unique charm. The current library campus features nature trails, an observatory, and an apiary, serving as a community hub for both part-time visitors and full-time residents. This expansion will create a total of four new meeting rooms, replacing the existing three and creating a brand new children’s library to expand opportunities for community engagement.

“The Tye Preston Memorial Library will provide a transformational facility for Canyon Lake, and we’re so excited to finally be breaking ground,” said Doug Moss, Managing Partner at Steinberg Hart’s Austin office. “This library will create a living room for the entire community to gather regardless of their age or interest, and we can’t wait to see how this improved space serves the greater Canyon Lake community.”

In order to better support the wide array of programs that the library offers, Steinberg Hart engaged with the library, the Friends of the Library, and local community groups to better define the vision for the new addition. Priorities included adding community rooms and event spaces, enhancing the Children’s library and Teen spaces, providing plenty of quiet places for Adult reading through improved acoustics and separation, and supporting robust programs like the Makerspace.

Planned to be a grand feature in the new library, expanded community meeting rooms will provide increased space for programs supported by upgraded A/V technology and enhanced lighting and sound systems. These will be supported by a catering kitchen & new restroom facilities. The library’s renovation and expansion will triple the size of the popular makerspace, providing space for creative and hands-on activities.

The children’s area will expand into a re-imagined, acoustically separated space, reflecting the local community through design features inspired by the building’s surrounding natural landscape. It will feature a dedicated storytime room, baby care room, and significantly increase the space dedicated to the youngest community members. The new addition will retain the current character that is so beloved to the community while providing significantly more and better-utilized space.
