San Diego, CA – August 22,2025 — San Diego Design Week (SDDW), presented by Design Forward Alliance, will debut Signature Projects  Shaping Our City on Opening Night, September 17, 2025, honoring San Diego’s most innovative and impactful design leaders. This new recognition series celebrates projects that not only set a high bar for design excellence, but also strengthen communities, inspire connection, and address some of today’s most pressing challenges.

This year’s SDDW theme, Design for Impact, calls on designers, makers, and changemakers to create bold, purposeful solutions that advance innovation, foster equity, and deliver lasting change. It emphasizes the value of working in multidisciplinary teams—where architects, planners, technologists, artists, environmentalists, and community leaders come together to co-create solutions that address urgent social, environmental, and civic issues.

Eric Weiss, Board President of Design Forward Alliance, noted: “Our Signature Projects honorees reflect the diversity, creativity, and community spirit that make San Diego such an extraordinary design city. These projects are more than beautiful—they show how design can build bridges between people, disciplines, and ideas, shaping a resilient, inclusive future.
