Yesterday we celebrated the groundbreaking of La Placita — a new community hub in East San José, delivered in partnership with the School of Arts and Culture at the Mexican Heritage Plaza in East San José. With expanded cultural programming, La Placita represents a meaningful investment in culture and community connection, creating a welcoming place for families and neighbors alike. We’re honored to partner with the School of Arts and Culture and the broader team in bringing this vision to life.
“La Placita is designed as a contemporary, layered expression of culture—rooted in tradition while speaking clearly to the present, and shaped by the distinct identity of East San José,” said Katia McClain, Partner at Steinberg Hart. “Our goal is to create a welcoming cultural hub that reflects this community’s extraordinary creativity and resilience.”
Jessica Paz-Cedillos, executive director of the School of Arts and Culture, shared “La Placita will not only transform a long-vacant site in East San Jose — it will create a permanent home for arts, small business, and community life. This is what equitable, community-centered development looks like.”
