Associate Principal / Director of Sustainability
Vikas Shrestha combines practical design experience with technical expertise in sustainable design, including Climate Analysis, Energy Modeling, Solar Studies, Daylight Studies, and LCA/ Embodied Carbon Analysis.
As the Director of Sustainability at Steinberg Hart, Vikas leads CoLab, the firm’s Sustainability Team. CoLab provides sustainable design analyses to both internal and external clients, including climate analysis, energy modeling, solar studies, daylight studies, and LCA/ embodied carbon analysis to inform the firm’s award-winning designs. For almost 25 years, Vikas has served as a key resource in sustainable design, guiding the firm’s design teams in formulating green design strategies as well as technical support for implementation. In addition to his responsibilities as an Associate Principal, he leads in-house educational and training programs on sustainable low-carbon design and analysis tools. His leadership was essential to the success of Steinberg Hart’s sustainability accreditation program, which in just a few years has led to nearly 60% of the firm’s design staff obtaining one or more green building accreditation.
Vikas has completed several award-winning green building projects, including California’s first LEED Platinum Student Housing project. He is currently working on LEED Platinum certification of the Career Education Complex for San Jose City College, among others. He is actively engaged in AIA Los Angeles COTE committee. Originally from Nepal, Vikas holds a PhD in Architecture with a focus on Sustainable Design from UCLA.
